Thank You Alberta
Automotive Recyclers
Seventy-five per cent of an average car’s content by weight can be
recycled, and thanks to some environmentally responsible automotive recyclers
that’s exactly what is happening to many older, higher polluting vehicles in
Alberta.
Vehicles that
are 1995 model year or older produce 19 times more smog-forming pollutants than
those made since 2004. Retire Your
Ride, Canada’s new vehicle recycling program, rewards vehicle owners for
getting their high-polluting cars off the road and ensures that these vehicles
are recycled responsibly.
By following a
code of practice to ensure vehicles are permanently and responsibly retired and
recycled, automotive recyclers remove materials such as oil, gasoline,
refrigerants, mercury switches and tires from the cars prior to scrappage and reuse
components of the vehicle that are safe to reclaim. This ensures that hazardous materials do not end up seeping
into the ground, being released into the air, or leaked into the water.
Automotive
recyclers in Alberta who have partnered with
the program include A1 Willy's Parts Place, Aldon Auto Salvage Ltd, Allwest Auto Parts, Camrose Auto Wreckers Ltd, Dimsdale Auto Parts Ltd, Foothills Mechanical and Towing, Grove Auto & Truck Parts
Ltd, Lethbridge Auto Parts, Reg's Auto Wreckers, Superior Auto Parts, Vermilion Valley Auto Parts Ltd and Waymore Auto Recycling.
Retire Your Ride is an initiative of The Government of Canada, Clean Air Foundation and its partners and is managed and delivered locally by Climate Change Central. To become a recycler for the Retire Your Ride, or for more information, please visit www.RetireYourRide.ca or call 1-877-773-1996. |
